I look younger, I literally have to show ID for even entering 18+ places because I look 15-16 even though I’m 24. It’s gotten to a point where I’m concerned about who finds me attractive because I look like a literal child sometimes.
I had the same problem. I would pack on the make up to look older. On a positive note - I’m 50 now - and I’m told I look like I’m in my 30’s. (Save on Botox!!😂😂)
My husband and I would also get carded at 25. Now I’m in college in my 40s and classmates are constantly shocked. They think I’m late 20-early 30s. It is definitely more enjoyable later on in life lol
🙋🏻♀️ chronic “you look so mature” recipient here 😂 my face isn’t particularly long or angled but I do have a longer philtrum and slightly closer set eyes. I also don’t do well with overly feminine or childish styles.
As a chronic "you look younger than you are" recipient - you are the type of woman I've always envied and wished I looked more like. Women like Amal Clooney, Faye Dunaway, Cate Blanchett, YOU, etc... have such an air of elegance and sophistication that will always be timelessly beautiful.
@@KelleyBroussardMackaig aw what a sweet comment! Thank you 🥰 I’ve always wished I had a younger looking face so it’s truly a grass is greener on the other side situation 😅
It’s more genetic what type of features you have like certain countries have more pronounced facial structures like cheek bones etc and also if someone has less overall fat it may look more pronounced even though it’s the same as in someone who has to facial parts covered by s a higher amount of fat
Looking youthful gets you more attention, often not positive or respectful attention. Looking mature gets you more influence, but with a narrower audience. I think we each imagine the other has more pull or gets more respect than us, but we’re really both being dismissed about equally I imagine.
@stylemejenn I also noticed that you are looking particularly lovely today. I'm 73 but still get lots of pleasure from watching your channel. I used to look young for my age but it's catching up with me now! ❤
Short/round face ✅ Wide set eyes ✅ Round chin ✅ Full cheeks ✅ Soft lips, eyes, and nose ✅ No wonder I get mistaken for being in my late twenties when I’m actually in my late thirties. BUT I have a yang body type, so I like to emphasize that contrast with my style.
Same 😭 most people thought I was super old when I was younger, but now, most people believe I’m a high schooler or very young college student. I’ve especially seen this since I’ve undergone a massive weight loss recently. It’s interesting how the slightest changes can influence someone’s perception of your age. I’m 26, so I’m still young, but most people guessed I was my current age when I was 16-22. Now they guess I’m anywhere from 18-22
@@RantiyyaThat does sound like a very millenial thing yes😂. I have noticed that a lot of us millenials actually seem to age backwards in our appearence. Compared to gen Z in their 20's who seem to age rapidly! I've seen zoomers 7 to 8 years younger then me who look at least 5-10 years older then me😂!
Thanks for explaining this so well! I have a long face, but people usually think I’m a generation younger than I am. Now I understand that’s due to having wide-spaced round eyes, round chin, button nose, full cheeks, and a shorter mid face. True story - I got carded for my marriage license since you have to be 18 to get married in my state. I was almost 30! 😂
I have a youthful face but I work as a healthcare provider. I'm careful to always wear very tailored and structured clothing to avoid the " how old are you?" question (especially as I have a fairly cheerful personality).
I think with you it is more the vibe you give of. You seem INCREDIBLY poised and well put together. Very Virgo like. That always gives of a mature vibe imo.
Okay now it all makes sense! I have a sharp chin and long face but full lips and slightly bigger eyes. When I was younger people always assumed I was 2-4 years older, I think Makeup can play a huge part in that too. For example at 16 I wore a full face of matte makeup with the sharp contour and thick brows which was on trend in 2016. Now that I’m 24 I like to wear glossy lips, dewy skin, pink blush and an overall more natural look and people now sometimes think I’m 18-20… like what 😂😭 So if you’ve got mixed features like me it can really depend on which ones you’re accentuating.
This is so fascinating! I used to get told „you look mature for your age“ SO much when I was in my teens. I was also very thin and I think I didnt grow into my longer face features yet. Now that Im in my late twenties I always get told I look much younger! I have always wondered why that could be. I also thought, similar to what you said, that it might be because of my face being softer from weight gain but also how my facial features look now, compared to when I wasnt fully grown into them
I've always been considered younger, only now in my 40's that I look more mature (and that's ok). Yes, I have a round face, round eyes, round nose, short chin. Everything's making sense now 😅😂. Thanks for the video ❤.
As someone who matured early & had a more mature face (whatever that means) I was assumed to be an older teen girl when I was only 11. I did grow into it & now people think I am younger or are surprised when they find out my age. The downside of this was that since I was perceived as older/more mature when I was a kid, I wasn't allowed to just be my age of 11, 12 etc & had to deal with a lot of unwanted sexual attention that made me very uncomfortable. I was the oldest by 5 years & every oldest daughter knows what that means...you are expected to be another adult/parent in the house when you aren't.
Also oldest by 5 years, long face and very tall from early childhood. I was asked on a date at my uncle's wedding when I was seven. The teenager said he thought I was seventeen. Also (used to be) high contrast. Grey hair now, but it used to be dark brown, and I have fairly strong brows. I also read above my grade level, used a mature vocabulary. So I was often taken for the oldest in my class, although I was usually the youngest (December baby), and was never allowed to act like the child I was.
I have always looked younger in the face, and now I know why! Cheers, Jenn, as I'm older now, I find this a bonus but didn't in my teens and twenties 😂
Same. I had baby face until I was 21! Haha. When I was 16 I had “chubby” cheeks and I felt so silly! I wanted to look like a tall model. But I’m 5’1” and I never grew any taller. Now I’m happy in my skin, quirks and all.
Hey, Jenn. I'm a dude with close to zero interest in fashion, yet I've been watching your videos all month here and there. I'm an artist, so your systematic analysis of all these things is very useful, it helps me to understand and/or confirm my stylistic choices, preferences and (rudimentary) clothing decisions on characters The only thing I knew beforehand is that I'm very attached to the stable triangle silhouette, recently turned into a meme, "big pant" (as opposed to "big jakt"). Love the channel, thank you very much and, who knows, next odd blue moon when I get out of my cave to buy clothes, I might experiment with these concepts on myself, too! Cheers.
Hey! Thanks so much for this message - I was actually thinking of a video topic related to the proportions of the upper vs lower body as they relate to styling choices, and the big pant or big jakt meme would be a perfect way to introduce the topic!! Thank you for the great idea 💞
@@stylerefinement Haha, glad to serve as inspiration. Will be on the lookout for it. :) In illustration, we usually call these "character shape language", if you Google for images, you'll see quite a few comparisons between circles, squares, normal triangles (stable) and upside-down triangles (dynamic). But the big pant/jakt meme might be catchier...
@@ohh....Pretty sure they mean younger looking in appearence not exactly just young. Cause you can look young and be an adult as well. And honestly genetics also play a huge role. I've noticed that generally speaking most people of european descent appear far older usually when they hit their 20's. Compare that to a portion of asians [not all asians but more like japanese/korean/chinese etc.] Someone once mentioned that asians will look like teens untill they reach 40/50 and then all of a sudden they'll look 2x as old from 50 and up. I thought that was an interesting yet stereotypical comment.... But honestly I rather look younger then my age up untill my 50's and then look way older then 50's then looking 35 at age 20 any day!
Jen, I just love your essence and your voice. You are so soothing. Whenever I watch your videos I feel encouraged, informed and able to thoughtfully think about myself in a new or fresh way without judgement or stress. You seem like such a nice person!
I will never not love you for giving diverse examples and not saying “all East Asians or all westerners tend to fit into x type”. I watch a lot of Korean image consultants and they’re just as bad at doing this as their western counterparts are at typing Asians. 😂 If we *actually* look at people there are just as many mature looking people as there are youthful looking people, regardless of their ethnicity. To think otherwise is to admit one thinks a certain group all looks the same. People tend to only look at the same celebrities and models that, and this needs to be emphasised: *fit the beauty standards of their country!* Beauty standards are SO different around the world and it’s not great to blanket an entire group of people, the average person doesn’t perfectly fit the beauty standard. All this to say - I think you’re the best out there! ❤
Kirsten Dunst may have a shorter face, but she is the exception, she looks 200 years old, when she was a child actress in Interview with the Vampire, she looked like her character a adult in a child's body. She has always looked very mature especially when she was in her 20's she looked a decade older, like in Spiderman.
It's hard to believe she was in her 20s when she did Spiderman. Maggie Gyllenhaal also never looked young, she was only 39 when she played the mother in Get Out
I have a similar look to Kirsten dunst with a square face and balanced features, and I've always looked more mature. Now that I'm 31, though, and thanks to skincare, I'm sure, I finally feel that I just look my age
Thank you! This is the most relatable and digestible “style typing” video that I’ve watched, thus far. Helps me feel a little bit better about refusing to wear traditional “work clothes” at 44-years-old… …I’ll keep rocking my a-lines, jeans, boots and empire waistlines 🧡
You look so glowy today! Beautiful! ❤ My face leans a bit to the mature side but my personality can be a bit immature 😆 so I just dress how goofy or serious i feel on a particular day.
This is fascinating! Thank you for another great video. And thinking about myself, this helps to answer the question about certain clothing items I'm attracted to but when I wear them I feel as though I'm trying too hard look younger. When I look in the mirror and I feel that my outfit matches my essence, my features and physical trades including coloring, I've noticed that throughout the day I forget about myself and what I look like or even what I'm wearing. That's what I think of as confidence because I know that I don't have to think or worry about how other people are perceiving me.
I look more youthful, so to look more balanced i wear simple clothes (solid tops, jeans)... in more office like clothes i look like a kid that stole her mum clothes, but in more childish / girlish styles i look like a preschool girl. In beach dreeses i look like Samara, iykyk 😅 luckily today simple tops are fashionable
I’m exactly the same. Because I do my make up quite nicely every day I feel better in plainer clothes. 😂 I’m a bit chubby too so plainer feels better to me 😂
yes, i too do my makeup everyday to have a bit of pop of color! also as a way to look more "grown up" / polished (more cat-like and lifted face and less rounded cheeks & eyes as i have naturally)
i’m so happy you posted this video! i was actually watching something last night that helps you understand your appearance. and if i did it correctly, i believe i fall into the more “natural” category. but the way you explain things is so much less confusing! i just turned 37 a few months ago & i always feel like i don’t know how to dress my age/more mature.. but i just look silly in certain styles. i definitely have a lot of round features 😆. so thank you for helping me better understand myself!
Interesting take on the topic, and very well explained! My face is youthful, but I'm tall and curvy. Soft dramatic with an ingenue essence. I like my outfits to be a mixture of mature and playful elements.
I have round full red cheeks and a short face with big eyes. I look like a big baby😂 but my style has always been almost severe. I'm an autumn and am naturally attracted to reds and mahoganies in my clothing. Almost no one has ever taken me less seriously. And will mostly tell me how im very mature for my age
I love this style of video. I have a youthful spirit but all my features are longer and a bit more masculine. I love wearing bold colours but in unfussy longer silhouettes.
According to this video, my face is ‘mature’, but I’m in my mid-30s, and people think I’m a teenager - including teenagers. I also look better in girly/youthful styles.
I’ve always been told I look younger. I have a baby face - pale, round and cute. It has been both a curse and a blessing. I spent my 20’s and 30’s packing on the make up to look older and more professional. My husband was even asked if I was ‘legal’ 😂. Now I’m 50- I get asked if I’m dating my son!!😂😂 In regards to style - I’m an ingenue-classic. I like to dress in classic tailored outfits - but with bright colours, sequins and sparkles. (Classic with a twist!!) 🤩😘
Ehm nope not really.....I wish I could but I can't. I look very strange and silly when I try to look more mature. I have a babyface and can't fake the mature look...
@@srendasrenda mmm depends. .. if you want to look maybe your age,you can look at Jennie kim makeup, butif you do a really heavy makeup, it will look unflattering and age you not in a good way(like 2016 makeup, looks bad on baby faces or people with soft features). The best you can do is to demand respect or acept the fact that you look younger, but don't worry sone day everyone will age.
I am checking off all the "mature" boxes over here. I have come to peace with my features. Mature ist not equal to old. Yet, I am envious of all the woman who don't look silly wearing a winnie the pooh shirt at 30+. ;)
I don't know if I'm reading my features correctly, but overall I'd say my face is a narrow oval, so looks longer rather than rounder, my eyes aren't close-set or wide-set, I don't think my philtrum is particularly short, and I don't have babyish cheeks, but I've always been seen as much younger than I am by other people. I do have very full, red lips and a fairly small nose which might have something to do with it, and I also think my super white skin and red hair are a factor. I feel like people think you're younger if you have porcelain skin, because children usually have lighter skin than they will as adults, and red hair is associated with youth like blonde hair is. Also my eyes are blue, which are also a trait associated with youth for some reason. I look bizarre in "feminine" clothes - at least feminine in the sense of womanly. It's incongruous!
I can relate. As a blonde, I feel this way also. I’m also very petite and have blue eyes and a small little mouth. I bet you’re beautiful! Also, I wish I had red hair! Haha.
That means you have low contrast and soft coloring which is an ingénue feature. So you're right it's related to youthful looking. If you had fair skin or blue eyes with black hair, I suppose it would be more of a mature feature (dramatic essence) (still overall look depends on the face shape of course)
My face is on the youthfull side,as I'm grown up,people always assume I m too much younger than my age,I have to be careful with garments and acessories selection, bcs if I choose too mature and masculine clothes, looks like I am using my father's clothes, too mature and feminine, looks like I am using my mother's outfits, with boyish I can go away but not exagerate, with elegant or classic type of clothes, I appear sad and boring,I've found that the easiest way to dressing myself is always mix the style with cute elements in it. If wanna wear a suit, could be short, not too baggy, light fabric(medium weight maybe)if I want more romantic style would wear a pencil or tulip skirt,sandal/strappy pump with bows or cute detail, ponytail with a bow (big is mature, small is youthfull, depends on my mood) if I am going to a party, enfasises on my eyes and lips, (shimmery eyes and glossy lips!) . Anyways, being youthfull looking or mature looking neither is bad or good, just depends on how you want your style to be and where you live, for example, in the west, they preffer more mature faces and are always praised, whereas on the east Ásia (korea, China, Japan) one of their preffered look is cute and adorable faces, the same way that westerners say "use cat eyeliner for make you look sexy" is the same way they say" make your aegyousal for make you look cute" 😂😂😂 I find it very funny. Anyway,I wrote too much here😅.
It's so true about the preferences in different continents. As a Korean growing up mostly in North America I found the conflicting preferences to be super confusing lol which I've now come to terms with 💁 It's evident in your profile pic that you have a youthful look to you!
I feel like I look equal parts youthful and mature depending on the angle you catch my face at. From the front, my nose looks like it's sort of small and round, but from the side, it's surprisingly long and straight. I have an equal mix of mature and youthful features based on what you described in the video (I would also consider a cupids bow to be a common youthful feature). It's an unusual problem being really in the middle. Unexpected things can really throw off a look.
@@Yelsaew It’s true what you say about the cupid’s bow! Women in the 1920s would make theirs very defined so they could look as young and doll-like as humanly possible.
My facial proportions matches a lot with your proportions without the eyeshape & nose shape. Also, I'm in my 20s & have been called mature for the past 5-6 years (especially bcz my older sister is petit, has good skin & sharp facial proportions.) A lot like the Hadid sisters, BTW I'm 100% having bellas problem in that case. Also, the style choice you talked about at 7:55 is so SO accurate I can't wear anything too girly bcz it makes me look like an straight up auntie. I can only wear it if the colour contrasts are good & doesn't makes me look mature. I have to always go for shirts , pants, certain types of tops, work outfits, tomboyish fits etc.
I am a mix of all the characteristics, but i think despite having a long face and long mid third, my eyes, nose and mouth are rounded and small and my cheeks are big and fleshy. I have always been told i look younger, and now i am approaching my 40s and ppl think i might be 30.. The biggest way for me to tell which look i have is when i dress. Give me a cute, frilly dress and i feel so pretty, comfy and happy in it. Give me a serious outfit with heels and what not and i look like i am trying so hard to be an adult.. I love my look, i feel youthful and childlike inside and i like that it shows on the outside as well :)
Hey, very helpful, I never thought that my sartorial, neutral style choices is what make me look older! I could see something is off, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. However, I wish you described youthful style choices :(
I have a funny anecdote, a few years ago I was in an English class (at the time I was 20 or 21 years old) and a boy came up to me and asked me my age and when I told him he was totally shocked, he literally started shaking his head from side to side saying: "it can't be!" 😅 The poor guy believed with total certainty that I was 15 years old.
I’m obsessed with Yang looking faces 😭. I always thought they looked so edgy and stunning at the same time. Growing up I’ve always had a more round and wide face without much sharpness. I think the only yang features on my face might be my nose since it is long and my eyes being close set. I’ll take notes from this video and try to tune my makeup routine into incorporating ways to make my face look more Yang though. Helpful video!
I find that to be a very interesting topic. I used to think - and got told by someone - I might have ingenue essence. But learning about the actual features you'd need to have to actually have ingenue essence, I have none of those features. And when I go through the typical features for all the essences, the one that's most likely a fit is the classic essence. I do look cuter and younger when I wear my typical eye make up (which opens up my eyes a lot and them being on the lighter side while having that dark rim around the iris might play a role here too). But when I wear no make up, I definitely don't come across distinctively youthful or "girly". I remember that when I was a teenager up to my early 20's people assumed I was older and now they mostly think I am about 10 years younger than I actually am. It's like having "no visual age" almost. But I am aware that age perception can be different depending on where you live. If most people in their late 30's are overweight, have visibly sun damaged skin and show wrinkles due to mistreating their skin and body in the past, while you always took care of your skin, have no sun damage, no actual wrinkles and a normal weight, people will automatically assume you're younger, no matter your features. (That's the case where I live, actually.) My cousin for example is 5 years younger than me, uses absolutely no skincare, also never wears sunscreen or make up to protect her skin, and people always assume she's older than me. She's pretty, don't get me wrong, but you can see signs of damage in her skin. And that's something that might confuse people when they try to type themselves. The actual aging process of the skin due to outer influences (so really non-genetic causes). While that has absolutely nothing to do with your essence or your facial structure, which is what these type of analysis processes are about, it HAS an impact on how you are perceived. And no I am not saying, wrinkles are bad or aging is bad. I am actually not one of those that fears visual signs of aging at all. I am just saying the condition of your skin can confuse your impression of what your face type could be. And it really should not. Look at your bone structure, the size of your features, the shape of your features and also the way your face changes when you genuinely smile our laugh. I noticed that that is something that creates a VERY specific impression and can have an impact on how people perceive you and your visual age. Your facial expressions are part of your essence and part of your vibe and therefor make up a huge part of the way you are perceived by others. Usually people with a more calm and subtle type of facial expressions get perceived as being a bit more mature than those with a very animated facial expression style. Also people in which you can literally see their true feelings through their facial expression are perceived younger or even naive while those who you almost can't read, are perceived more mature and sometimes even intimidating. That's very much a subconcious type of perception imho. To underline that: my cousin shows literally no expression in her forehead (and never got botox) while I have a very animated face. I can't hide my true opinions and feelings unless I really force myself to. The pros to this? When people talk to me, I don't have to say much, they can literally see what I think by only looking at me while I listen to them. And they often feel very understood and respected which is why they trust me almost straight away. While my cousin often gives off that "I don't care, why are you even talking to me" vibe, even though that's not what she really is like. The way we smile is also very different. I smile big and my eye area is very intensely affected by my smile. My cousin's smile is very subtle and calm and rarely affects her eye area, even when it's a genuine smile. Even if I put a face filter on the both of us so you cannot see any wrinkles or fine lines, she will always come across more mature than me which gets even more apparent when we are next to each other. I like to observe faces and almost always internally analyse features, gestures, facial expressions, one's coloring, their body language etc. and I noticed that all of these have a huge impact on how people perceive you and how mature you might come across. If you're only looking at the facial features, that might give you a different result than you'd get if you'd take everything about you into consideration. Which is hard to do on your own, because we usually don't see ourselves that way, unless we have that friend that always films everything and everyone so you happen to find footage of yourself you didn't even know was taken. That's usually when you can ACTUALLY start to analyse your overall vibe, the effects that literally EVERYTHING about you has. And that's when you can truly start to analyse yourself.
Looking young can have its drawbacks. Especially when it comes to interviewing for jobs. I used to intentionally try to make myself look older before interviews to improve my chances of getting hired. Sleek back hair, heavy makeup, sharp serious cuts on my clothes were all my typically employed tactics.
I look older and this summer I am wearing brights. They don't need to look childish so I don't feel we clash, nevertheless I enjoy wearing my Hello Kitty t-shirt occasionally 😅
I am always told how I look younger than I am and all my features are rounded and my cheeks wide , my chin small and rounded and my cheeks a bit full but so your definitely right there. I'm no Nicola coughlan , I don't look like a teen unless I'm in my dressing gown without any colour added to my face because that is when I get workmen and delivery men get stressed about me providing i.d to prove I'm over 16 😂😬🫣🤔 I'm 31. If i put anything youthful or large items in my outfits it only makes me look like a child. Keeping everything soft and narrow is the only thing that works for me. I have a grungey style which really works for me visually and with my soul. That soul connection to your personal style is sooooo important ♥️
Haha I’m two years younger than you only and that happened to me as well at the airport just this year when at customs they asked if I’m over 16 we should be very thankful both of us for our youthful genes
Very well explained, Jen! I feel like my face is slightly on the mature side, but close to being in-between- my face is a little bit long, but my forehead is high, and the rest is in the middle. What about the size of features? I always assumed that thinner lips look more mature, but is that correct?
Thinner lips....depends from person to person...if your others features are more on mature side, can amplify the sence of maturity, but if have an overal youthfull looking face, thin lips can make you look cuter, specially if they are thin+small.
I think I look youngish for my age, unless if you get close to me and see my wrinkles. As a young looking person, I think the older looking ones would probably end up taking the win in the end, cause their “older” features would grow into their faces, they would look elegant and flawless while we younger looking ones would just end up being wrinklier babies lol
I think the video is only talking about face but in real world when we look at someone we look at their bodies as well .amd i have realised that being short, slim & less curvy also helps to make someone look younger. Weight also plays a major role. I have observed that having a lot of fat on face and double chin makes one look older despite having young features. Having petite body also makes one look younger. Eg. Selena gomez..she used to look young when she was slim but as she has put on weight she has started looking older than her age
There’s also the “Mature with undercurrent of Youth” and “Youth with undercurrent of Mature” Honestly I think of Youth & Mature and other beauty as different types of flowers For instance: Mature = Spider Lily Youthfulness = Peony
Even though I have a kinda long face, sharp chin, sharp bone structure, prominent cheekbones and normal size nose I have really youthful face maybe because of my mouth and eyes
I’m 32 Asian male when I went to Europe everyone thought I was 22-23…I really hope it was because of the way I look and not because I also act like a man child 😔
I can assure you it's cause you look more youthfull. Europeans tend to look way older then their actual age. They often mistake me for closer to a decade younger to. They start to age rapidly [physically] as soon as they reach their early 20's to mid 20's. Genetics suck for some ethnicities. So highly doubt it was cause of your manchild character😂
I have more mature facial features yet strangers always presume I am years younger. I think one reason may be that I have a lighter and brighter skin tone for my ethnicity. I think brighter and clearer skin tones are another feature we associate with the faces of babies and children.
I remember when we were sitting at lunch a friend of mine called me cute and the other friend corrected her saying i wouldn't call her just cute she's more of a girlfriend level matured beauty. I remember it whenever i feel down haha
According to this video I have a mature face but everybody tells me that I look like a highschool student, should I wear more mature or young clothes 😂
@@eda1166 the best way to know is testing. Is a fun way to find out what looks like when you dress more mature or young, also takin pics for you compare is a good exercise, maybe you are in the midle because most people look their age,you could try to do a full mature look and see how's working, another day try a full /youthfull look,is neither of them work, than probably you are more in the midle, also, you should see if is more youthfull +feminine or youthfull +masculine;or mature+masculine or mature+feminine style of clothing. If you wanna more info,I would sugest dear peachie's makeup archetype video and "how to dress your masculine/feminine energy;Elyssa has some great videos too about style archetypes.
I have a babyface because, I’ve got a round face, chubby cheeks, big eyes, tiny mouth and a small nose. So, I’ve been mistaken for a teenager since I turned 20. Even nowadays, people never guess my generation/age correctly. They always think I’m Gen Z and on super duper rare occasions I’ve even been mistaken for a Gen Alpha. I’m not photogenic but, in real life I’ve always been told I look much younger than my age. I’m about to turn 34. A few months ago two ladies thought I was 12! Then, a few weeks ago some waitresses also thought I was like a teenager. I was hot on by a guy in college because, he thought I was a minor. Then, when he found out I was actually older than him? He immediately lost all interest in. A boy friend even nicknamed me, “Legal Lolita” in college. I thought it was such a sweet and nice compliment.
People have always thought I was younger than I am (memorably once in college I passed two cleaning ladies for the dorms on the sidewalk and smiled at the one I knew from my old dorm, and the other one I didn't know shouted out "What! I thought she was a little girl!" [I do not know why she was confused in any case lol]). I'm very thin and petite, slightly below average height (5'3/94) no curves or boobs (ballet dancer) so I guess I get it, but my face itself really isn't that youthful, it's long and I have slight shadows under my cheekbones, slightly long nose, slightly long philtrum + kind of thin lips. I have big eyes but for the most part I'm more of a Bella Hadid in the face type than a Gigi lol. But I feel like I don't look more youthful than average in the face at all. That being said, my eyes and forehead skin don't crease when I emote or smile, so I also have no crows feet or forehead lines or anything like that (I'm 24 and most of my peers are getting some at least faintly) so maybe it's that
I love this topic. My face has very similar features to yours, even though I'm caucasian. People always assune I am older than my age. But now I wonder: Is it better to highlight one's features or to balance them out?
When I was younger like high school and after graduating I was told I look older. After those years people have now been telling me I look younger than my age. So I'm confused. I always had a round chubby face, but I guess now that has went down a tiny bit and I guess it makes me look young? Idk I'm just really confused.
I got mature when I was younger, like everyone mistook me for a teenager at 9 and such. Up until I was about 26, and then it started to be that I look younger than my age. I’m 31 now and tbh I don’t really get it. I think some of it is extra fat on my face but it might also be my rounder features and big wide nose taking precedence? Because I have a longer face and hooded eyes which I think are Yang features
I definitely look younger. My nephew literally asked me why I look like a teenager lol It kinda sucks especially cause I’m a single 30 something. Lots of guys that are too young for me approach me. It’s been difficult growing into a more mature style. I like both girly and tomboy and androgynous
I've always been told I look younger, I can remember buying a more womenly dress online years ago, putting it on and thinking I look like a child dressing up in Mum's clothes.
I look so much younger that people always think I’m around 14 y/o and I’m almost 19. I kinda do have full cheeks, short nose, high forehead, a more rounded chin (although not that round), and overall my face seems to fit the yin better.
I do have those soft features, chubby face, all the features you mentioned. But nobody ever told me I look younger than my age. I look my age. Why is that so?? I don't have big eyes though.i am only 22..maybe it'll work I future I hope 😂
Mature and I get just as many looks as I did when I was more youthful 😉 That is because I smile. If you smile you automatically look better and happier! If you use cerave tinted moisturizering spf with a tiny bit of concealer and a translucent powder -you are good! Insert a nike check onto your cheek ( with your hand) ✔️ 👈🏼like so… and add your blush and you’re good to go 😊
I feel like I have a weird mixture of both?? I’m a soft gamine. I have a mixture of small and sharp features. My eyes are slightly deep-set and I have sparse, arched dark blonde brows. The shape of my brows is mature in my opinion because of the arch. But the color and sparseness of them seems childlike also. I feel super different when I pencil them in and when I don’t. I have naturally wavy, fine, dark blonde, honey-toned hair. I have high check bones that are a bit sharp, and cheeks that are softly angled, not overly sharp or overly soft. I have a soft, small mouth with a sharp Cupid’s bow, and a delicate chin with a little cleft. My face is generally heart/oval shaped. I think having a lighter complexion naturally makes me seem younger, and I also have eyes that are somewhat rounded. I really just don’t know where I fall in the youthful/mature look. I’ve had people say I look younger but also elegant, which often is associated with maturity. 🤷♀️
I look "older" in photos but "cute" in reality. My face is wider my bose is smaller really😂 Camera makes our faces more mature in general but especially selfies
When I was 13 people thought I was 20, but now that Im 30 people think Im 26, pheeew, Im so glad :'D But I definetly have a mature face with distinct features, kinda big nose and lips, strong bones etc, but the thing is I think it makes me attract the men I like; very masculine guys. It seems to me that "regular" guys go for more typical feminine young looking women, while ultra masculine, just high T, guys, go for more "mature" strong faced women. So its perfect :D haha
I'm really confused!! I was assumed of being in 6th class when I was in 8th and my friends tell me I'm mature(i think, not by looks but still) I'm kinda confused I slay feminine dresses but i also look good in masculine dresses My face is long Space between eyes is wide My chin are narrow But...my cheeks is not that round And my cheek is not that full I mean I don't have water or fat accumulated there so...pls help me
I was always told I'm very serious and mature. As a child, I rarely smiled and I had this blank, almost sinister face expression. My eyes are also on the hooded side and the corners of my lips are downturned, so it doesn't help the resting bi*ch face allegations either 😂 I never truly looked my age, even as a kid, because of my face expressions, my deep voice and overall reserved behaviour.
Most people put me between 10-9 years younger than my age I don't mind it at least I don't look old but I hate nobody ever takes me seriously because they think I am young also getting carded all the time is pretty annoying. To me there are good and bad parts about me looking younger.
I look younger, I literally have to show ID for even entering 18+ places because I look 15-16 even though I’m 24. It’s gotten to a point where I’m concerned about who finds me attractive because I look like a literal child sometimes.
Lmao same
I had the same problem.
It is definitely more enjoyable later on in life lol
that is why my bf says i look "18" to not sound like a p3d0 lmao
Same here. I’m 26 and I get told I look between 16 - 20
🙋🏻♀️ chronic “you look so mature” recipient here 😂 my face isn’t particularly long or angled but I do have a longer philtrum and slightly closer set eyes.
@@KelleyBroussardMackaig You look absolutely stunning 🥰
@@KelleyBroussardMackaigI agree! I guess grass is greener?
It’s more genetic what type of features you have like certain countries have more pronounced facial structures like cheek bones etc and also if someone has less overall fat it may look more pronounced even though it’s the same as in someone who has to facial parts covered by s a higher amount of fat
Looking youthful gets you more attention, often not positive or respectful attention.
Looking mature gets you more influence, but with a narrower audience.
I think we each imagine the other has more pull or gets more respect than us, but we’re really both being dismissed about equally I imagine.
Old looking person here. I’ve never looked ‘cute’. Handsome. I’ve got a handsome female face.
😮 you have a dramatic face😅
Like Angelica Houston

Jenn, your face looks like it's glowing. I love the lipstick on you and the sheen seemingly reflected on your cheeks.
Aw thank you so much! ❤

I also noticed that you are looking particularly lovely today. I'm 73 but still get lots of pleasure from watching your channel. I used to look young for my age but it's catching up with me now! ❤

No wonder I get mistaken for being in my late twenties when I’m actually in my late thirties. BUT I have a yang body type, so I like to emphasize that contrast with my style.
When I was really young, I’m always told I look old like an auntie 😂 but now that I’m in my late 20s, I’m told I look really young.
You must be millenials 😊
Judging by your pfp, you look to be at least mid 30s though.
Thanks Leticia! ❤
In illustration, we usually call these "character shape language", if you Google for images, you'll see quite a few comparisons between circles, squares, normal triangles (stable) and upside-down triangles (dynamic). But the big pant/jakt meme might be catchier...
I don't know maybe it's because i'm western but you look young to me! This was a really detailed informative video :)
I'm glad you found it informative ❤
Looking young doesn't mean looking youthful.
@@ohh....Pretty sure they mean younger looking in appearence not exactly just young. Cause you can look young and be an adult as well.
And honestly genetics also play a huge role. I've noticed that generally speaking most people of european descent appear far older usually when they hit their 20's.
Compare that to a portion of asians [not all asians but more like japanese/korean/chinese etc.]
Someone once mentioned that asians will look like teens untill they reach 40/50 and then all of a sudden they'll look 2x as old from 50 and up.
*Jenn, sorry.
I will never not love you for giving diverse examples and not saying “all East Asians or all westerners tend to fit into x type”. I watch a lot of Korean image consultants and they’re just as bad at doing this as their western counterparts are at typing Asians. 😂
If we *actually* look at people there are just as many mature looking people as there are youthful looking people, regardless of their ethnicity.
Completely agree.
Maggie Gyllenhaal also never looked young, she was only 39 when she played the mother in Get Out
Maggie Gyllenhaal wasn't the mom in get out but I do agree she always had a mature look
I have a similar look to Kirsten dunst with a square face and balanced features, and I've always looked more mature. Now that I'm 31, though, and thanks to skincare, I'm sure, I finally feel that I just look my age
@@kathryncoursey8066 Good for you, nice to hear that.
I think you’re talking about Emily Blunt, who also has a very mature look, even when she was very young.
Thank you! This is the most relatable and digestible “style typing” video that I’ve watched, thus far.
Helps me feel a little bit better about refusing to wear traditional “work clothes” at 44-years-old…
…I’ll keep rocking my a-lines, jeans, boots and empire waistlines 🧡
You look so glowy today! Beautiful! ❤
My face leans a bit to the mature side but my personality can be a bit immature 😆 so I just dress how goofy or serious i feel on a particular day.
Haha I feel you on this one 😁
This is fascinating! Thank you for another great video. And thinking about myself, this helps to answer the question about certain clothing items I'm attracted to but when I wear them I feel as though I'm trying too hard look younger. When I look in the mirror and I feel that my outfit matches my essence, my features and physical trades including coloring, I've noticed that throughout the day I forget about myself and what I look like or even what I'm wearing. That's what I think of as confidence because I know that I don't have to think or worry about how other people are perceiving me.
I love your videos - show so much observation and analyses. Thank you again❤
That explains so many things
I’m exactly the same. Because I do my make up quite nicely every day I feel better in plainer clothes. 😂 I’m a bit chubby too so plainer feels better to me 😂
yes, i too do my makeup everyday to have a bit of pop of color! also as a way to look more "grown up" / polished (more cat-like and lifted face and less rounded cheeks & eyes as i have naturally)
I have always had a Mature face👏🏼which helps with the type of makeup and clothes I wear.
i’m so happy you posted this video! i was actually watching something last night that helps you understand your appearance. and if i did it correctly, i believe i fall into the more “natural” category. but the way you explain things is so much less confusing! i just turned 37 a few months ago & i always feel like i don’t know how to dress my age/more mature.. but i just look silly in certain styles. i definitely have a lot of round features 😆. so thank you for helping me better understand myself!
Interesting take on the topic, and very well explained! My face is youthful, but I'm tall and curvy. Soft dramatic with an ingenue essence. I like my outfits to be a mixture of mature and playful elements.
Similar here
I have round full red cheeks and a short face with big eyes.
Omg the baby pictures are the cutest
According to this video, my face is ‘mature’, but I’m in my mid-30s, and people think I’m a teenager - including teenagers. I also look better in girly/youthful styles.
This is my exact experience. I know this video is focused on facial features, but I think height is a big factor as well.
@@yourfuturewaifu9061Maybe, but I’m also average height and look much taller than I am.
I’ve always been told I look younger.
I have a baby face - pale, round and cute.
It has been both a curse and a blessing.
I spent my 20’s and 30’s packing on the make up to look older and more professional.
My husband was even asked if I was ‘legal’ 😂.
Now I’m 50- I get asked if I’m dating my son!!😂😂
In regards to style - I’m an ingenue-classic. I like to dress in classic tailored outfits - but with bright colours, sequins and sparkles. (Classic with a twist!!) 🤩😘
does anybody else want makeup tips now for going with and against your feautures on both ends of the spectrum? bc i would be soo into it!
Yes
Yet, I am envious of all the woman who don't look silly wearing a winnie the pooh shirt at 30+. ;)
Thank you, Jenn!
Really appreciating your research and insights.
The blue eyes are typically assigned to children because they deepen as they get older. That's why blue eyes are celebrated in adults. They're rare
Bone structure, Eye shape (siren or doe), Cheecks, sometimes even the hairstyle matters.
Thank you!
Thank you! This was very helpful.
Jenn you are killing the look in this video. Your colors/depth etc. are perfect here. ❤
Aw thank you! ☺❤
Same here
Actualy, many people looks their age, less defined cupids bows looks younger while very defined looks mature.
However, I wish you described youthful style choices :(
Oh. This was very helpful. Thank you. Makes so much sense ❤
@@andreanieves7426 😂😂😂😂 relatable for babyfaced people.
(That's the case where I live, actually.)
My cousin for example is 5 years younger than me, uses absolutely no skincare, also never wears sunscreen or make up to protect her skin, and people always assume she's older than me.
I look like an old baby!
😂
Looking young can have its drawbacks. Especially when it comes to interviewing for jobs. I used to intentionally try to make myself look older before interviews to improve my chances of getting hired. Sleek back hair, heavy makeup, sharp serious cuts on my clothes were all my typically employed tactics.
I look older and this summer I am wearing brights. They don't need to look childish so I don't feel we clash, nevertheless I enjoy wearing my Hello Kitty t-shirt occasionally 😅
You look so beautiful here 😍
Thank you so much! ❤
I was always told that I looked younger than my age and now I have to work really hard to look youthful at midlife.
Great video! Clean and insightful
this makes so much sense, thank you!
Your makeup is stunning Jenn, you are glowing. Stunning ❤
Thank you so much 🙈❤
could you do a whole video on mature-suiting outfit ideas? x
It happened to me, too. But it won't last forever. Try to enjoy it! 😉
💯💕
I agree that it really depends! But generally yes - thin lips add a more mature look :)
I think the video is only talking about face but in real world when we look at someone we look at their bodies as well
.amd i have realised that being short, slim & less curvy also helps to make someone look younger. Weight also plays a major role. I have observed that having a lot of fat on face and double chin makes one look older despite having young features. Having petite body also makes one look younger.
Eg. Selena gomez..she used to look young when she was slim but as she has put on weight she has started looking older than her age
I don’t think Jenn has a long filtrum
There’s also the “Mature with undercurrent of Youth” and “Youth with undercurrent of Mature”
Honestly I think of Youth & Mature and other beauty as different types of flowers
For instance:
Mature = Spider Lily
Youthfulness = Peony
Even though I have a kinda long face, sharp chin, sharp bone structure, prominent cheekbones and normal size nose I have really youthful face maybe because of my mouth and eyes
Even my iPhone thinks I’m a baby, I’m the most baby-ish looking adult I know lol.
Not before me.
makeup tutorial? you look so pretty
My face has elements of both. When I was younger, people found me mature. Now that I’m older people think I am younger lol.
I have more mature facial features yet strangers always presume I am years younger. I think one reason may be that I have a lighter and brighter skin tone for my ethnicity. I think brighter and clearer skin tones are another feature we associate with the faces of babies and children.
Same!
I think is good to do both;highlight too much is not good, but everything balanced is boring.
Mature face here!
I looked 18 at 12 and I look 30 now that I’m 40! Can’t wear pigtails but I’m okay with looking sexy AF 😏😌😉
You are lucky to look 10 years younger. 😂
I don't have big eyes though.i am only 22..maybe it'll work I future I hope 😂
what is the lipstick that you are wearing here? it looks so beautiful
I’m wearing Nars soft matte lip balm in Whiplash + MAC Cockney + Kosas lip oil in the center 💕
Mature and I get just as many looks as I did when I was more youthful 😉 That is because I smile. If you smile you automatically look better and happier! If you use cerave tinted moisturizering spf with a tiny bit of concealer and a translucent powder -you are good! Insert a nike check onto your cheek ( with your hand) ✔️ 👈🏼like so… and add your blush and you’re good to go 😊
Definitely mature😂 I’m only a 19 year old undergraduate but often recognized as a teacher or staff at my university😂
Last time I was carded I was 52 ! Up till that age I was carded every 2-3 months I am in Canada so the drinking age is young
I loooove your face and hair❤
Thank youuuu 🫶
You look much younger than your age but mature. It makes sense.
Mature faces age much better from what ive observed because its less change observence to the eye
I’m 35 and I get confused for 16-early 20’s lol and my son looks like my sibling 😁
I was assumed of being in 6th class when I was in 8th and my friends tell me I'm mature(i think, not by looks but still)
I'm kinda confused
I slay feminine dresses but i also look good in masculine dresses
My face is long
Space between eyes is wide
My chin are narrow
But...my cheeks is not that round
And my cheek is not that full
I mean I don't have water or fat accumulated there so...pls help me
Definitely mature for me
I was always told I'm very serious and mature.
People say I look younger. I have never had plastic surgery or anything. I’m 63 and have no wrinkles except a few fine lines near my eyes.
Okay but you guys used a photo of Jennie from black pink and Leona Lewis who is 40 years old… and Jennie is 27 😐
Mature look may not be “old” My sister always looks mature but she’s aging so well.
Most people put me between 10-9 years younger than my age I don't mind it at least I don't look old but I hate nobody ever takes me seriously because they think I am young also getting carded all the time is pretty annoying. To me there are good and bad parts about me looking younger.
